Yesterday we hosted several families from the Butler & Warren DSAGC group. We grilled hamburgers & hot dogs. The kids played and had a great time. We had a good range of ages of kids here, the youngest was 3 months old and the oldest was 8. After lunch, the kids went outside and jumped in the big pile of leaves in our backyard.
Liam had a blast in the leaves. Once he was in the pile, he never wanted to leave it.
Juliana was totally buried. At one point, only her head was above the leaves.
I have pictures of some of the other kids but I'm not going to share them here since I don't have permission to put their faces up on the blog, but they all had a great time in the leaves.
Parents of kids with DS, it's important to take advantage of activities like this. The kids have a good time and parents get a chance to talk. We didn't talk about DS all the time. Home brewing beer, flooding basements and home repair projects gone wrong, buying cars, and giving birth were some of the topics we covered, but it's nice to have someone to talk to about DS without any awkwardness. If you have a DS group in your area, I highly recommend you check it out. Consider this your Down syndrome PSA.
