I’m walking in the Buddy Walk to show my support for the more than
350,000 individuals with Down syndrome in the United States. I want to
do my part to make sure that each individual is given every opportunity
to reach their full potential.
Every step I take, every dollar I raise will help ensure that each
individual with Down syndrome in the United States will be able to do
just that. Last year alone, over $6.5 million dollars was raised
nationwide for local and national education, research and advocacy
programs.
Your involvement in the Buddy Walk — by walking with me or by
sponsoring me — will make steps for a brighter tomorrow for all
individuals with Down syndrome.
On September 15, our family will be walking in the Buddy Walk to support the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati. Last year, the Cincinnati Buddy Walk was the largest in the nation. All proceeds from this event benefit the DSAGC, which provides support to families and individuals who have been touched by Down syndrome.
I’m asking for your support in several ways. First, you can donate to sponsor me or our team. To sponsor us, go here. To sponsor a participant, click on the link on the left side of the page. You can search by my name (Mindy). I think I’m the only Mindy signed up so far but if there is more than one, I’m the Mindy associated with TEAM PICKLE. You can sponsor me individually or make a general donation to Team Pickle.
The second way to support us is to join our team. Become a member of Team Pickle. The Buddy Walk is a family friendly event. Liam will be part of the festivities. We start at Newport on the Levee, cross the Purple People Bridge, circle around, and end at the Port of Call in Newport. Afterwards, there is a large party with food, entertainment, and fun.
Last you can support me by donating a prize. If you would like to donate a prize, please e-mail me via the link on my sidebar.
Let’s talk prizes. For each donation you make, you’ll be entered to win a prize. I don’t care how much you donate, just donate. I will use a random number generator to choose the winners on September 17. Here’s the first batch of prizes.
That’s 450 yards of 75% superwash wool, 25% nylon fingering weight, handdyed by me. The colorway is Pawpaw’s Plum Tree.
350 yards of Shelridge Farm Ultra Touch Merino Handpaint. This is the same yarn I used to make my Jaywalkers.
More Shelridge Farm Ultra Touch Merino Handpaint in a darker pink colorway.
Please pass the word around on your blogs. Our fundraising goal is $1000 and 10 team members. So far, we have 3 members and $50. I know knitters are a generous bunch. I didn’t want to set my goal too high, but I have this desire to blow the other teams out of the water. Oh, by the way, the top 10 teams receive a private tent at the afterparty. I want to be asked by the organizers how we raised so much money and just say "Knitters" and smile.
