I have so much to write about. I feel it’s been ages since my last proper post. So here goes…
Christmas in New York
The trip to New York from Ohio was 13 hours of icy, snowy, slushy hell. On a normal day, it takes us about 3 hours to get to Cleveland. It tooks us about seven and a half. We traveled like this.
That’s about 3 inches of ice on an interstate. We finally get to Cleveland where the roads are clear (they know how to deal with snow!), we sail through Pennsylvania. We get to Buffalo. I hate Buffalo in the winter. Think white out, think blizzard, think 15 car pile-up on the eastbound thruway. All that and more when we got to Buffalo. Fun, yes? I know you wish you could’ve been there too. We were lucky; we didn’t have any incidents during the trip. Just a miserable and miserably long trip.
We spent the holidays with my in-laws. Not much more to say about that.
Knitting in Progress
I spent the time in New York doing nothing but reading and knitting. I finished Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. I worked on Clapotis. I did nothing on the Lopi Lace scarf. (Amanda, yes, the pattern from Weekend Knitting). Here is where Clapotis stands now.
I’ve got about half of the straight row repeats finished.
I’m not the fastest knitter, but once I get a good chunk of time, I can make some progress (for me)….which leads me to…
Knit Night at Lambikin’s
I got the winter newsletter from Lambikin’s Hideaway, my LYS, last week. They’re hosting a Knit Night on Mondays. In the past, I’ve been incredibly disappointed with other knitting groups I’ve attended; they’ve always seemed unwelcoming to newcomers and are a little age-biased. Towards younger knitters! I’m only 28, but I felt like an old woman when I’ve been at these groups.
Last night was a different story. Besides getting a good 2 and a half hours of knitting time, there was lots of talk about sorority hazing, ex-boyfriends, and penis-shaped cookies (my 2 cents about sorority hazing–including the male stripper). I had a great time with some awesome people. If you’re a Cinci knitter, check it out. Mondays, 5-8 in the lounge upstairs. I’m going back next Monday, and I’m probably going on Saturday for some SEX.
Knitting Resolutions
With a new year, comes the promise of change. Besides my own personal resolutions and goals, I’ve added some knitting resolutions to share.
1. Finish up all UFO’s from last year. Not a very daunting task by any means. Just some blocking and seaming. The knitting part is done.
2. Learn to knit socks. I want to knit socks. Lots of them. I have about 1000 socks. Most are mate-less. Taking a cue from Natalie , January is Sockuary for me as well. Except I’m taking a class from Christina at Lambikin’s. DPNs and me–we don’t mesh so well. Like oil and water and…other unmeshy things. Christina can lead me to the promised land filled with socks to fit my tiny feet.
3. Be a faster knitter. I’m slow. I admit it openly. But there’s so much I want to knit, and so little time. Unless I quit my job (I’m all for it, DH DOES NOT support this idea. Jackass.), I don’t have enough time to knit as much as I want. Any tips to knit faster?
4. Knit a sweater. They give me the wiggins. So much for me to screw up. But I like Klaralund, most everything in Debbie Bliss’ Alpaca Silk book, the fairly easy fair isle from SnB Nation. Yeah, well, I’ve never done fair isle either. Two birds, one stone and all that.
5. Be a better blogger. I need to update more often. I’m thinking about a different layout. What do you want to see and read?
All that being said, I’ll talk to you soon. And I won’t be such a chatterbox. Hmm, can’t promise that.

Yup, Christina’s place is definitely FUN every time I am there!

I just found your blog, and I am glad I did! ๐ I say, jump right into your resulution of knitting a sweater. I was scared too in the beginning, but I think that you will be successful (if I was, believe me, you can be!) Granted, I have not really worn my first sweater out of the house… but it is all about practice. Find a simple pattern and go with it! ๐
Your Clapotis is very pretty!
