It was a perfect day for the Buddy Walk with a bright blue sky and temperatures in the 60’s. We arrived and met Beth (and her dog, Pearl) and Lynn’s family.
We crossed the Purple People Bridge from Newport, Kentucky over into Cincinnati.
From left to right, that’s Doug, Shane, and Tracy. Lynn and Beth were just ahead of them.
That is the view of Cincinnati from the bridge.
We crossed back over into Newport and walked to Riverboat Row to the finish line and the after party.
We ate some snacks and listened to some live music as others were still crossing the bridge. Liam was finally completely awake and ready to party.
Liam didn’t last long though. After he ate and we walked around some more, he completely zonked out.
We left for home soon afterwards. The DSAGC estimates close to 7000 walkers, with one family coming from Switzerland to walk, and they’ve raised over $300,000 so far. The total raised is still being tallied. The best thing about the Buddy Walk is that it’s a celebration. Yes, it’s a fundraiser, but it’s not about raising money for research or a cure. It’s a celebration of the lives of those with Down syndrome and all they bring to our lives. We’ll be walking again next year. We’re tossing out ideas for team names already. Pickle’s Pacers? Pickled Out? The Pickle’s Parade? We’re going to have pickle signs and pickle banners and custom t-shirts. It’s all about my little pickle.
Liam sends his thanks to everyone who sponsored us and donated prizes. He would give you sloppy baby kisses, but there’s just too many people to kiss.
