Excruciating. Cate totally gave me that idea when she commented on Liam’s teething, but I’ve taken excruciating for myself.
Yesterday, Doug and I began our first cycle for a new baby. That first appointment yesterday was just a review of our last protocol, form signage, and bloodwork. I don’t do so well with the blood draw. It’s not just a little prick, that I can handle. It’s the 6 or so vials of blood that have to be taken. I let the nurse know that I handle this terribly. Around vial #5, I started to get woozy. When she was done, I was having trouble taking deep enough breaths. I started to shake. I got very nauseous. Doug was ready to carry me to the restroom. Then everything got all wooshy. Doug’s voice sounded like he was talking through cotton. Then I started to sweat. I drank some water. Doug got the nurse to get me a cool washrag. I sat there for about 10 minutes until I was level-headed again. I didn’t stop shaking for another 10 minutes or so, but the worst was over. I was dreading this appointment just because of the bloodwork. Anyway, we’re headed for the IUI in early April.

Congratulations! I know you know that it will all be worth it in the end, but it does suck in the meantime:) My husband and are are finally pregnant (13 weeks tomorrow) after 3 unsuccessful IUI’s and 2 in-vitro cycles:). Liam is so gorgeous and he makes me smile everytime you post a picture!

Good luck. And next time they want to draw gallons of blood ask for a butterfly needle. It’s a needle with what looks like a butterfly attached, and then a tube that fits onto the vaccutainers. They use them a lot with kids. Anyway, because of the clip there isn’t a lot of movement of the needle as vaccuutainers are changed out. Also, tell the person doing the draw of your tendency to pass out and they’ll draw lying down. They don’t want you to pass out either. Unfortunately, I have too much experience with both draws and passing out.
