Lace Work
I’ve completed 6 rows of Ene’s Scarf from Scarf Style. It’s taking me about 45 minutes per row. It’s 375 freakin’ stitches. Although the number of stitches decreases by 4 every row, I think, maybe every other row. Whatever at least it’s decreasing.
I’m kind of proud of myself on this so far. It’s "real" lace unlike the Airy Scarf (Of which there is no picture yet because the camera is charging and it’s not blocked and the ends aren’t woven in yet. Hey, I’ve never said finishing is my strongpoint.) which is laceweight mohair on big needles with a few yarnovers thrown in for good measure. It’s also the first time I’ve worked from a chart. I believe I said I hated charts. Mmmm, it’s not so bad.
Except for the incident on Saturday night, I’ve not had any problems. I was up until 8 am Sunday morning trying to figure out why I had one too many stitches in one section. I actually stayed up all night to figure it out. (Lemme tell ya, the show She Spies really sucks! And that was the best thing on at 4 am.) I frogged it once and recast on all 375 (Well, really 374, but I improvised. Hey, I’ve never said I was a math whiz either. Sheesh, I’ve been able to read since I was 3, but counting, not so much.) stitches. Using the knitted cast on, which I’ve discovered I really don’t like. It’s waaaay slow and for some reason my new stitches are very tight. And I’m not a tight knitter. Okay, so the problem. Wanna know what it was? Why I had one too many stitches? I wasn’t slipping the marker over one stitch. I felt like such an absolute moron when I figured this out. Figured out at 6 am at which point DH, all scowly and disheveled, strolls in the room and says "What the hell are you doing?" My response, "Shut the hell up and go back to bed."
I’m debating the use of a lifeline. I really really think I should before I get too far and screw something up beyond repair. I do not want to cast on for this again!
Dear Sister…
Your backpack was in an empty (mostly) garbage can. It does not smell or have weird spots. I’m still pondering how to fix it. I still can’t talk about what happened to it. Greatly disturbing. Let’s just say that part of the bottom has gone away to the great yarn beyond. So. How would you feel about a felted bag?
