Lolly‘s pictures of her garden inspired me to show mine. Not that mine compares to hers. I only planted the Sweet Williams. Everything else was done when we moved in. A huge selling point in my book.
These are my Sweet Williams. I planted them about 2 years ago. I think they’re a very pretty flower, but underused. There’s another reason why I chose these as well. My Poppaw’s nickname was Sweet William. At least he said it was. Now every time these flowers bloom in May, I think of him.
They bloom in light pinks and dark pinks. They’re much taller this year than last, but they are planted in front of coneflowers and black eyed susans which are much taller. And haven’t bloomed yet.
These are my absolute favorites right now.
The peonies just bloomed yesterday. By next week, they will be a riotous mass of pink. They’re so pretty (I keep saying that) to cut, but you really have to watch out for ants. The ants are huge and they love to crawl in between all the petals. I give the peonies a good rinse under water before I bring them in the house.
Our house is just an average house, but the backyard. Oh, the backyard. Nicely landscaped. But what sold this house was the sun room that walks out onto a wrap around deck. One side of the deck is built around a maple tree. We’ve put a table and chairs under it, and it’s a great place to grill and eat outside. The other side of the deck overlooks what’s called the weeping garden. Everything planted in that area, except for the ivy, is a weeping something or other. My favorite is the weeping cherry which has gorgeous pink blooms in the spring.
This is a great place to curl up with a book or some knitting and a cup of tea. I’ve even gone out here in the winter, curled up in a blanket, with Spike on my lap. It’s very peaceful.
Just in case you think I haven’t done any knitting, I’ll show you what I do have. Last night, I finished the back of Lindsey’s backpack. I reversed the colors so that the back is mostly green with orange stripes and the front is mostly orange with green stripes. Was I exercising creative energy? Well, maybe. Actually, no not really. That decision was made because I thought I was going to run out of the orange yarn if I used it for the majority of the back.
There’s an orange stripe at the top and bottom as well. You can’t see them because of the stockinette roll. The pack is wider than it appears. Stockinette roll again. I just have to finish the straps for this pickle and then seam it together. I hate seaming. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Is this why I have so few FOs that require seaming?
And here’s the Klaralund back. Again.
That’s about 7 inches. I haven’t worked on this at all since last week sometime. I have focused all of my energy on the backpack.
I have some good ideas brewing in my head for my next projects. I know I’ll cast on for another pair of socks in the next couple of days. And I know the stash will be increasing this weekend. Tomorrow is our 5th wedding anniversary. We’re heading down to Burlington, Kentucky on Saturday to stay at a bed & breakfast. On Sunday, we’re going to a Reds game. While we’re out, my sweetie peetie said he would go to yarn stores in that part of the world with me. I could add this to the list of reasons why I love him, but I love him just cause he is.
