More on the Cedar Leaf Shawlette

July 31, 2010 By Mindy

I had a couple of people comment and ask about the Cedar Leaf Shawlette being more like a scarf than a little shawl.  Here's what I did to get the size difference.

My yarn was Araucania Itata Multy, a fingering weight yarn.  The pattern calls for a DK weight.  I used size 4 needles.  My gauge is approximately 4.5 sts/in after blocking.  I noticed quite a few projects on Ravelry that used fingering weight yarn, but the needles used were size 5 or 6 which should result in a larger shawlette.

I used approximately 210 yards of the Araucania.  A full skein weighs approximately 3.53 ounces.  My finished shawl weighs around 1.8 ounces which is just a little more than half of the skein.

There ya go.  I just used smaller yarn and smaller needles to get a smaller finished object.  I made no modifications to the actual knitting.

Thanks! That’s really helpful. I looked through Ravelry and didn’t find too many people using fingering weight yarn, but with their rad new search options, I should probably look into it again…
