Many people have this assumption that cheerleaders are snobs, are mean, are vapid and dumb. I was a cheerleader for 17 years of my life–elementary school through college. I am none of the above.
I followed a link from another blog (can’t remember whose), and I have never been more proud to be associated with cheerleading. If special needs cheerleading programs existed back when I was in school, my friends and I would have been all over it. Cheerleading gave me a lot of good memories. It’s bringing that and so much more to those who need it most.

I don’t know if you remember but my daughter is a cheerleader. Her gym has a special needs team and my daughter helps coach the team. It is a joy to watch (both the kids performing and the interaction between the kids and the coaches.) Complete absolute joy.

Were cheers so risque while ou were cheering? Or is that a new thing? I don’t know about that sort of thing. But I had a lot of friends (including both the valedictorian and salutatorian (I can’t even SPELL that word) of my HS class who cheered!
