My baby is a vampire!**

December 4, 2009 By Mindy

4 Dec

Thursday morning, we packed up a very hungry and none too happy baby to go to the hospital.

Do you see the cyst on the corner of her right eyebrow?  That's what had to go.

She did very well.  We got checked in, she got examined, and we took her back to the OR.  Doug held her as they put her under.  She was not happy about having the mask on her face.  She screamed and then went limp.  They warned us that was what would happen.  I made Doug hold her.  I didn't exactly like the idea of her just going limp.

The orbitotomy took a little more than a half hour.  We met with the opthamologist, and he declared it a success.  He said it was a fairly large cyst but nothing unexpected.  He said it did leave a little indentation when it was removed so he rearranged some of the muscles and subcutaneous stuff (how's that for a medical word?) to fill it back in.  He said it might look concave for a little while, but it should heal nicely.

Once she woke up, they took us back to recovery.  She was not happy.  Not happy at all.  We heard her screaming as soon as we got out of the waiting room.  In other words, we heard her from across the entire surgery suite.  She calmed down as soon as she saw us.  I nursed her.  She ate a graham cracker and drank some apple juice.  We got her dressed and brought her home.  The whole thing took about 3 hours.

Postop1

This was about an hour after being home.

Postop2

This was later in the afternoon, after a long nap.

Day2op

This was today at lunch.

She looks like she took a big punch to the eye.  We have to apply an antibiotic ointment to it four times a day, but it's really no big deal.  It looks much worse than it is.  She was back to normal by yesterday evening.  Right now, I can hear her downstairs saying, "Eat! Eat!"

**Whenever she cried yesterday, she had bloody tears.  If you watch True Blood, you get me.

    scary! I’m glad she’s okay.

The pictures are great. I’m sure once the scar fades, no one will notice. Especially with those giant blue eyes.

Oh the poor baby!! My daughter had a cyst over her eyebrow almost exactly like your daughters. After a CT scan and some checking time passed and luckily her body reabsorbed it. I’m so sorry your little one had to have surgery! Here’s to a quick healing recovery ๐Ÿ™‚

My little boy is 3 in Decemeber and has a cyst exactly like your daughter on these pictures but on his left eyebrow. I worry about it covering his eye and getting bigger and also I get fed up with people asking how he banged his eye. So after the 3rd visit to the Doctors he will finaly have it removed. Thank you for putting pictures and comments up I know what to expect now x
