Rolling through the knitblogs yesterday and today, I've noticed a couple of people who went to their LYS' Super Bowl sales. Now, there's nothing wrong with a sale at the yarn store. No, no, no; yarn sales are good. But, I really hate how some yarn stores market Super Bowl sales. There's a lot of "Don't want to watch the game with the boys? Come buy yarn!" marketing that really picks at my scabs.
I like football. When football season rolls around, I am as happy as a clam. I enjoy pregame shows; I like to watch postgame interviews. I am insulted that just because I have two X chromosomes that I should just go shopping instead. I can discuss the game intelligently, pick apart plays, and dissect rules and calls just as well (and better than in some cases) as most guys. Football, or any other sport, is not the exclusive hold of one gender or another.
So, yarn stores, have more sales. Just don't market them as "girly fun time–no boys allowed" sales. I won't be there. I'll be with the smelly boys, arguing if Ben Roethelisberger's knee was down before the ball crossed the plane.
P.S. I totally nailed that call last night in the game before the on-air commentators even mentioned it.
P.P.S. This rant goes to the NFL and certain pregame shows too. I don't want to buy pink team merchandise; I'll buy orange and black. I don't want to watch jiggly T&A with my pregame analysis. I want analysis.

Fair point. I don’t really care for sports but I sit through most of them with BF. We watch together. He’s usually reading papers or work stuff and I’m knitting. It’s a win-win situation.

I totally agree with you. My LYS had a ‘Yarn Tasting’ on Super Bowl Sunday that I would have liked to go to but I wanted to watch the game. I LOVE FOOTBALL.
