Please settle this raging argument that has been going on in our house lately.
Can a unicorn fly? Or is a flying horse a pegasus?
Robin says
I always thought a flying horse was Pegasus…and a Unicorn is flightless. I don’t know, now you have me thinking about it!!
PumpkinMama says
I always thought Unicorns don’t fly, Pegasus (Pegasi?) do. A quick google shows that not all agree with me.
Tricia says
Unicorns do not fly. Pegasi do. ๐
starfish says
Yes, Pegasus flies – no horn. Unicorns don’t fly. Although I suppose if you’re writing a book – you can make your four legged creature do whatever the heck you want it to.
suec says
I’va always been under the impression that they got one attribute or the other but not both. not sure the horn would be properly aerodynamic for flying. so, is the debate about a depiction in something or just one of those things that happened to come up??
Elizabeth says
Mr. E says that a pegasus can fly, but so can a unicorn. If it has wings, that is. A unicorn without wings can’t fly. Hee.
Elizabeth says
Traditionally a unicorn has a single horn, cloven hooves and a tail more like a cow’s than a horse’s. The tail and hooves are most often made like horse’s in modern artwork. A pegasus is a horse with wings, no horn.
Phoebe says
Pegasus is the given name of one flying horse in mythology, not the name of a breed.
A unicorn is a horse with a horn, no wings.
I would love to know the genesis of this discussion — sounds too much like my house to be normal!
