Today, Liam and I went to Doug’s work to visit. To show Liam off to everyone. He hammed it up and charmed everyone. After that, we went to my former workplace for lunch. We sat and ate lunch and gossiped. So and so had a baby, so and so is pregnant, did you hear that so and so got fired/quit/got arrested, etc?
As I walked around to visit with everyone, I was struck by this. Everyone knows Liam has Down syndrome, and not a one cares. They love him. They want to hold him (females and males alike). They give him toys. They offer him candy. They want hugs and kisses. They treat him like any other baby that gets brought into the office. Some ask questions, but they’re intelligent questions that I don’t mind answering at all.
It gives me hope for this world especially since a lot of the time we often hear about the negatives that happen when you have a child that is disabled. We haven’t experienced that. Ever.
P.S. It was nice to see everyone from work. I do miss the people that I worked with. They’re fun and funny. However, I don’t miss work.
P.P.S. I found out that the company’s charity fundraising will benefit the DSAGC. I have to believe that the 2 babies born in 2006 (Liam and one other) are partly behind that decision.

You have been given a wonderful blessing in Liam, and I’m glad to see that those around you recognize him as such. I hate to think of the ignorance and hatred that others have encountered, and I am so glad you and Liam (and your husband) have not had to deal with any of it.
