So, it’s the end of the work day. I get online. Check out the hometown newspaper (Huntington Herald-Dispatch) and see the breaking news. La la la!!!
This, kids, is a great day. Marshall and WVU have signed to play a seven-game series in football. Thank you Gov. Manchin!
When I get really excited, I talk really fast. So fast it doesn’t sound like English. The words just blather out of my mouth. My hands wave back and forth in the air. I jump up and down and around and around. I sing nonsensical songs. DH doesn’t know this news yet. He’s going to get overloaded when he gets home especially since it took every bit of my willpower to not jump up and down and run around at work.
Maybe some background to let you know why I’m so excited. I *heart* football. It’s my favorite season of the year. I *heart* football so much, I married a football player (Awww, how cute. The cheerleader married the football player). Anyways, I grew up just outside of Huntington, the home of Marshall. My mom is a Marshall alum. My family are Marshall stark-raving mad lunatics fans. My grandparents’ dog is a Marshall fan. I kid you not. Dandy barks and prances around when Marshall scores, and she growls and pouts when they do something bad. Marshall fans have been begging for a series with WVU. They’ve played once in recent history, 1997. Since then WVU has done nothing but talk–"We don’t need to play ‘lesser teams’. So why do you play crap teams like Kent State or Buffalo? The deal was reached today. The first game is in 2006. Talk about anticipation.
It’s gonna be ugly. Marshall fans have hung a sign in the end zone of their stadium for the past several years that says "WVU stop being cowards. Play us!" WVU fans chopped down a billboard advertising Marshall football. And I’m going to be part of the ugliness. I will sell an arm for tickets to the 2007 game in Huntington. I’m sure I’m going to get a phone call from my mom tonight. Once she called to sing the Marshall fight song while I danced on the couch.
Hee, hee! I’m so excited. Imagine hands waving around right now.
