Only one more night and Liam will be home from camp. I miss his sweet face.
Today’s Tidbits start off heavy on Appalachia.
- I read this earlier this week and oh hell yes. All of this. “If you believe Appalachia is monolithically conservative and white, if you assume our story is one of privation, redneckery and pipe smokin’ grannies sipping moonshine, you do so because white men have told you that story.” From the LA Times: What You’re Getting Wrong About Appalachia.
- From The Bitter Southerner: A New Look at Appalachian Food. Ooh, this was good.
- Like to read? How about joining me in the Open Canon Book Club hosted by author Wiley Cash. The first selection for September is The Birds of Opulence by Crystal Wilkinson.
- Dinner of the week: Simple Homemade Tomato Soup. Serve this with sourdough toast with melted cheddar cheese on top. Trust me.
- Cake of the week: Nutella Hazelnut Cake. We’re making this for the boys when they come home from camp tomorrow. I am not going to make the candied hazelnuts because I don’t have the patience for that, but a vanilla cake with nutella frosting? Count me in.
Happy Friday!
