It’s been a slow, yet busy week. Let’s get to it.
- I’ve been spending time this week writing postcards to voters. If you feel so inclined, check out Postcards To Voters. Postcards to Voters supports candidates from local school boards to US Congress.
- “The Department of Justice started publishing information on the elevated rates of violence faced by people with disabilities nearly 20 years ago, and NPR published DOJ data in January showing that people with intellectual disabilities are sexually assaulted at rates at least seven times greater than others. Nonetheless, sex education for residents and training for attendants in Washington — and across the country — fails to account for this well-documented risk.” This is why we have regular conversations with Liam regarding his body, including using appropriate anatomical names, and why we have started telling others they need to ask him first before hugging him. Consent is important, and it’s important that he learns about it now.
- Dinner of the week: Perfect for all the sweet corn that’s in season now.
- Last, take the 35-40 minutes to watch this. These kids and their teachers put this together in 10 days. Watching Juliana’s face as she performed in this show was just amazing. She and her teammates are incredible, and watching kids (ages 7-18) do something they love is just the best.
