I finished the Jaywalkers about a week or so ago. I’ve been wearing them around the house non-stop. They are my favorite socks. So soft and comfy.
I will be knitting another pair of these. The only change I’ll make for the next pair is the heel flap. I followed the pattern exactly as written, and the heel flap is a little long for my small feet.
Big Excitement in the Hometown
Everyone who knows me knows I’m not from Cincinnati. I’m a small town girl from Huntington, West Virginia. That’s where my entire family is. Catch me when I’m tired or a little tipsy and I have a hillbilly (I can call myself a hillbilly. You can’t.) accent. I occasionally say things like "That ain’t right" or "I done did it". Anyways, there’s not much going on in Huntington most days. Saturdays during football season are the most happening days of the year. Well, Huntington just got a whole hell of a lot more exciting. Just look.
Yep, that’s David Straithairn, Academy Award nominee. And, wait, look at this one.
Hell, yeah, that’s Matthew McConaughey.
That’s why they’re in H-town. To make a movie. The title? We Are…Marshall.
Remember, when I bought some green Peace Fleece and it matched with my Marshall flag? And I had a link to an article why you should root for Marshall football? They’re making a movie about it.
In November 1970, the Marshall football team was terrible. Had been for years. There was an NCAA scandal that got them kicked out of their conference. They had won only a handful of games over the past several (more like many) years. On November 14, 1970, after losing a close game at East Carolina, the plane carrying the Marshall football team, coaches, university officials, and prominent supporters crashed on its approach to the Tri-State Airport in Huntington. All 75 aboard died. The movie tells the story of the crash and the extremely emotional events that happened to put a team on the field the next year. From what I’ve heard, the movie only changes small things. Names and events are as they were in reality. The university and families who lost someone in the crash were instrumental in making the script as true to life as possible. This crash was and is a defining moment in Huntington’s history. Everyone knows someone who was affected by the crash. This is not a football story. It’s the story of how a small town recovered after the worst event in its history.
Can I just tell you how excited I am to see this movie? I know I’ll cry. Not just because it’s emotional, but I get homesick. So to see my hometown up on a movie screen might just get me crying within the first minute.
Oh, wanna know how the story ends? Since 1990, Marshall football has won more games than any other university. More than Ohio State, more than Florida State, more than Notre Dame. Every big name football program is second to Marshall. Marshall has had Heisman trophy finalists. They have big name players in the NFL. Troy Brown has won 3 Super Bowls with the Patriots. Randy Moss is one of the biggest wide receivers in the NFL. Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich are the starting quarterbacks for the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars, respectively. There’s a reason why Marshall fans are so supportive and fanatical about their team. We know what it’s like to lose. Everything.
This is a lazy ass house
Around the house…
No napping for me. I have a ton of laundry to do, dinner to make, and stitches to knit.

I resent the whole hillbilly accent…I prefer Appalachian accent.
